How can leaders bridge divides?
In the debut episode of Nonprofits Now: Leading Today, More in Common co-founder Tim Dixon joins Chronicle of Philanthropy CEO Stacey Palmer to discuss a challenge many leaders across fields are facing: polarization inside the workplace.
America's polarization is creating all sorts of dilemmas for leaders in every walk of life – even organizations who would think of their work as miles away from politics. I'm honored to have joined the inaugural edition of a new podcast from one of America's most authoritative voices on philanthropy and nonprofits, to discuss not just the dilemmas but also evidence-based solutions. We hope this can be a valuable resource to Americans seeking to lead successfully in divided times.
- Tim Dixon, Co-Founder More in Common
This episode offers an opportunity to learn about More in Common’s people-centered approach to helping organizations improve their messaging and broaden their outreach to better engage with wider audiences.
As Tim shares in the podcast:
We need to also understand that what we're dealing with isn't the first time that any human society has dealt with profound polarization. A society that seems to be driven by this profound polarization can get beyond that. If there's leadership there, if there's an imagination, and if that desire for peace can be harnessed and communities can come together, we can learn that.
Of course, we don't know when that's going to happen. You know, it might not be this year, next year, it might not be five years, ten years. We might be living with this for some period of time, but there is still another side to get to. And if we can get to that without breakdown, without an explosion of violence, without a sort of systemic collapse, then that's success.
The point is, there always is another day, and we're always building towards that better day. And if we do that and if we keep people at the center of our approach — we start with people and we finish with people — I think there's a way through.
